Kash'd Out: A Band With Good Vibes in Every Song

Kash’d Out is a local band in Orlando Florida and they are the sweetest people you could ever meet. I say this because on Facebook you are able to go on their page @kashdoutmusic write them and they take the time to write back to you. So I decided it would be neat to talk with them and ask them multiple questions. That way we can have a little insight into who Kash’d Out is and how they roll. Also, their answers are very detailed and honest, you can see they did not make up any of their answers, but they took the time out of their busy schedule to answer my questions. Bands that are kind and willingly to help out, whether it is a fan or a writer with some questions for her article, are just wonderful bands and people. Plus The Kash'd Out members are easy going and friendly. Also, Kash’d Out is a band of five guys: Greg Shields on the vocals/ guitar, Jackson Hauserman on guitar/ vocals, Nate Lezniewicz on keys/ vocals, Joey Brohawn on bass, and lastly Marshal Hearne on drums/ percussion. As well, this wonderful band does not only have concerts in Orlando, but they do play elsewhere like New Orleans, Gainesville and more. As to those questions, I said I asked, well they took the time to listen to my questions and took the time to answer back, with that said here are the questions this lovely band answered and a little insight into their lives:
- What genre of music do you consider your work to be?
Reggae/Rock
- Who are your musical and non-musical influences?
We really dig the whole Reggae Genre from roots artists like Gregory Isaacs and King Tubby to modern classics Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, and Tribal Seeds. We’ve been vibing on “Iyaterra”, recently and definitely loving The Movement’s new album.
- How long have you all known each other?
We’ve all known each other as a band for about a year or two now, but Marshal (drummer) and Greg (singer) have known each other for much longer. Jackson (guitarist) and Joe (bass) grew up together so they go way back.
-How did you meet? When did you form your band?
Well, Greg Shields has been pretty active in the scene for a number of years acting as a producer for a number of bands (Ballyhoo!, Resinated, etc.). Jackson Hauserman was a session guitarist for a client of Greg’s, so they hit it off and the band was initially formed. Later, Marshal Hearne was recruited on drums due to his past work with Greg on a different project and Joey Brohawn actually moved to Florida all the way from Maryland to play Bass. We recently began working with a new keyboard player so we’re excited for him to make his first live appearance any day now!
- If you had an opportunity to be signed by any record label, big name or independent, which would it be?
Probably either Law Records or Rootfire Cooperative. Both have released some great albums of our genre and we’d love to have the opportunity to work with them. There are hard workers and good people running both of those labels. Ballyhoo!’s label Right Coast Records would also be sweet because we have so many friends in that camp.
-What inspired you to make music together?
I think we just sort of all clicked. We’ve been jamming together for a while now and the vibe just feels right. We have a common end goal and a sense of comradery that helps put the gears in motion.
Where have you performed? What are your favorite venues?
We’ve had the opportunity to play at some awesome venues and events. Our favorites to date have got to be the House of Blues in Orlando, Jack Rabbits in Jacksonville, State Theater in St. Pete, the Maple Leaf in New Orleans; really the list just goes on and on. The great thing about playing in a reggae band is getting to play venues with a really cool beach vibe like Captain Hirams in Sebastian and The Inlet in Fort Pierce. We also frequent this bar in Orlando called Tanqueray’s. It’s low key but that’s what makes it so cool. We’ve had some massive energy shows in that place. We’ve also had the opportunity to play Reggae on the Block, The Port Canaveral Seafood Fest with Dirty Heads and our friends the Super-villains. We’ve been on some killer shows and we couldn’t be more grateful.

-What has been your biggest challenge as a band?
Being in a working band is hard work! It takes some sacrifice to stay on top of social media, keep your live act polished and fresh, write new songs, play lots of shows, keep your equipment sharp, design merch, and just generally hustle your band 24/7.
-Have you been able to overcome that challenge?
It’s not really a challenge that ends or can be definitively overcome but we are most certainly up for it and have been giving it our all. At the end of a great show, or when we write a great song it makes it all worth it.
-What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?
Just keep husting! Hard work pays off and the universe conspires to help those who help themselves.
-What is the origin of the name of your band? What inspired you to do what you do?
Just trying to keep it green. Sometimes people think “Kash’d Out” as in “out of cash”, but it’s a reference to the other green haha. We’ve all just kinda been inspired by the love for music in general. This genre holds a special place in our hearts and we’re stoked to be a part of it at all. Other bands routinely inspire and teach us by example how to just be a better band overall.
These are just some of the questions I had for them and after seeing how much they wrote back I felt it was properly too many questions, but even if ten questions is a lot of questions or not they did not complain. Anyways Kash’d Out is an amazing band and their music is great to listen to on a drive home or chilling out. It is easy going and can make a sad day become a better day. I am not the only one who finds their music great and fun to listen to there are some folks like Michael Bailey who agrees as well, that their music is great, and as he said: “ Kash’d Out is so good I can not believe they have not been signed yet”. Which gets me wondering when will we get to hear their songs on the radio, because music like their’s give good vibes and makes you “ Feel good” ( Kash’d Out song).
