Addictions; they grab ahold of us and seem to never let go. Especially, when we want to let go of an addiction, it becomes what it seems as impossible to overcome, but it is not impossible. However, despite the journey of overcoming an addiction when you achieve that goal it is one of the best achievements one could have. According to Psychology Today an addiction is “ a condition that results when a person ingests a substance (e.g., alcohol, cocaine, nicotine) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, sex, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others.” There are various forms of addiction, however I found some are not taken as serious as a drug addiction. But it should be that any form of addiction should be taken serious, because they can take a toll on the body and mind. Such as shopping addiction and it should being taken seriously because it could be damaging. For example, though many people do go shopping, when it leads to an addiction if the person does not get their daily dose of shopping no matter the cost, this can lead to Fincial issues due to the spending or lead to dangerous behaviors like stealing and relationship problems. However, due to the nature a shopping addiction is not taken seriously as it should be. Another addiction that most find may just be a phase or hormones due to simply being a teenager or man would be pornography. Some of the problems one gets from pornography according to familyshare.com is the person faces: “ Creates emotional bond with artificial world, Sex without intimacy, Unsatisfying, Triggers addiction cycle in brain , and Unfulfilling...” these are just a few of the challenges one faces when having a pornography addiction. An such an addiction is as real of an addiction as a drug addiction is. In which, if someone we know or someone we love has such an addiction it helps to let them know that it is not just a phase, but that it is an addiction and it can be a toxic one.
Overall, addictions can be hard to break, but it does not mean it is who you are. The path to recovery may be hard, but not impossible. Also count the small victories, for they matter!
